Characterisation:
Two Friends English Dark comes in a small, round tin. The pull-tab lid allows you to reseal it with the plastic lid. For longer storage, however, it's best to keep the opened tobacco in an airtight container. Two Friends English Dark is a broken flake or ready-rubbed tobacco, marbled light to medium brown with some darker flecks. The aroma is sweet and reminiscent of cake. The flavor is dominant, as the Latakia is barely perceptible. The tobacco is light brown and cut longer. The aroma of the Regular Mixture barely reveals the flavoring used. The rising, delicate sweetness is more reminiscent of fresh hay. The balanced moisture content allows Two Friends English Dark to be poured into the pipe immediately after opening the tin.
Plugging:
With a little experience, Two Friends English Dark is easy to pack. Loosely, and perhaps slightly rubbed out, you can fill it into the pipe. If the pipe is sufficiently large and not too full, the compressed tobacco can expand properly. Any loose crumbs on top will quickly catch the flame.
Light up:
Lighting the Two Friends English Dark is also unusually easy for a ready rubbed. After the first flame, you gently level the surface with the tamper, strike a second flame, and obtain an even ember.
Smoking properties:
Two Friends English Dark behaves more like a natural tobacco. The smoke coats the tongue richly, leaving a dry sensation, similar to that of a dry wine. It is spicy and robust, yet without being overwhelmingly strong. If you deliberately keep Two Friends English Dark cool, ethereal Latakia notes and a hint of chocolatey sweetness emerge. The remarkable even burning makes this easy. Towards the end, the spice of the tobaccos intensifies, creating a full-bodied finish. Then light, flaky ash is all that needs to be removed from the pipe.
Redolency:
The aroma used in Two Friends English Dark prevents the Latakia scent from dominating the room. Tolerant non-smokers may appreciate this, but consideration should still be shown.
Conclusion:
The typical small tin contains a broken flake or ready-rubbed tobacco. Visually, Two Friends English Dark doesn't appear particularly dark, and the pre-light aroma doesn't suggest this either. However, the flavor is true to tobacco. Astringent and spicy, the rich smoke caresses the palate and tongue. Smoked cool, it reveals not only a robust bitterness but also subtle Latakia notes and a hint of chocolate. Two Friends English Dark is never overpowering, and its uncomplicated smoking experience doesn't demand much from the smoker. Just don't expect an intensely sweetened aromatic from Two Friends English Dark. In fact, this tobacco is more suited to connoisseurs of English blends.
