Manufacturer Description:
A firm favourite for the pipe-smoker looking for a medium strength, gentle and slow burning tobacco. Best Brown Flake is a natural, down to earth Virginia Blend suited to most smokers.
Characterisation:
The Best Brown Flake is in slices of about 7.5 cm length, 2 cm width and 1.5 mm thickness stacked neatly in the tin. The medium brown, with bright parts interspersed tobacco spreads a fresh smell similarly to hay. The slices feel soft and supple, but they are solid and keeps its shape. The fresh tobacco feels a bit damp, so it is initially recommended to take the needed portion out of the tin ½ to 1 hour before the smoke and lave it on the air.
Plugging:
The Best Brown Flake could be plugged in different ways. Either rubbed off and as a mixture or one combines 2-3 slices, fold them lengthwise and turn this "plug" loose into the bowl. Protruding residues are plucked generously, so that as a top layer a few small crumbs of tobacco from the tin could be used. As with almost any Flake care must be taken not stuffing too tightly, because the compact tobacco expands while burning down obviously.
Light up:
For the Best Brown Flake it’s recommended to light up the tobacco evenly with one flame, wait a minute and then - after you have flattened the surface with the tamper - relight the extinct tobacco with one or two flames.
Smoking properties:
While burning down the Best Brown Flake shows the character of a typical Virginia. One have to take care to smoke cool and slowly, so that it can unfold its fresh, slightly sparkling taste. The tobacco glows down evenly with some condensate. The aftertaste is sweet and tart, almost like dark chocolate. The strength is at least medium. The combination of it’s features makes the tobacco interesting for any occasion. The residual ash is
medium grey with some darker parts.
Redolency:
The redolence of the Best Brown Flake is slightly sweet, pleasant and unobtrusive. The tobacco should be welcome in most societies.
Conclusion:
The Best Brown Flake is a medium brown, with bright parts interspersed tobacco, which is cut evenly and neatly stacked in the tin. The tobacco gives off a fresh similarly to hay smell which is typical for pure Virginias. The handling is easy and the burning behaviour good. As with most Virginias, one should take care to the temperature so that the tobacco can develop its taste. The Best Brown Flake looks sparkling fresh in the mouth and leaves a tart-sweet aftertaste which reminds to dark chocolate. The combination of smoking characteristics and its average strength makes it interesting. It is suitable for any occasion but without too much stress from other Virginias. For beginners, the Best Brown Flake is perhaps precisely why recommended. But experienced smokers will also enjoy it for every opportunity.
