Manufacturer Description:
A combination of the highest grade Virginia and Perique Tobaccos, specially selected with the utmost care and hand blended by experts, result in this fine, cool smoking sensation.
Characterisation:
The tobacco lays in the tin diversified as rounded, a little bit stuck together slices with a diameter of about 40 mm (1.57”) and a thickness of 1 mm (0.005”). The slices are dark brown with a few, irregular brighter parts. The smell of the fresh opened tin is sweetly as malt or fresh pumpernickel – the typical smell of Perique. A medium flavour of naturally tobacco is spreading.
Plugging:
The Navy Rolls could be plugged rubbed as a mixture or, to get a slower burning, two or three slices buckled at the half and then carefully drilled into the tobacco chamber of the pipe. It’s recommended to use some crumbles with not too much pressure for the last layer. Both methods need the attention to be plugged not too compressed – the tobacco will expand while glowing!
Light up:
The tobacco tends a little bit to swell, especially, if it was rubbed. Therefore it’s possible that three to four flames are necessary to get the tobacco to a constant glowing. You should avoid to draw to heavy while light up – the tobacco will react with overheating!
Smoking properties:
The De Luxe Navy Rolls will be enjoyed slowly. Once lighted up properly they will bring a lot of fun, if smoked thoughtful. Fine nuances of Virginia and explicit parts of spicy Perique will be discoverable in a beautiful interplay. Once smoked too hot, only an uninteresting, sometimes fraying fume will be left until the end. It’s better to accept that the tobacco dies down from time to time and must lighted up again, what doesn’t has any influence to the taste. Slowly smoked to the end you’ll get only a little bit of condensate and a darker grey ash with a few tobacco particles will remain.
Redolency:
The redolence is affected by the exquisite, pure tobacco. The typical flavour of Virginia mixed with spicy smell of Perique – a tobacco for purists, who may reckon that this tobacco wouldn’t be loved in any surrounding...
Conclusion:
An exquisite, pure tobacco, which will be smoked slow and with attention to get a maximum of pleasure. It may be necessary to light up the tobacco again, but to hold up the taste and redolence, one should accept this circumstance. In a smoker-friendly society the Navy Rolls are an attraction – in restaurants they’re not welcome at any rate. A recommendation for the experienced pipe smoker – for beginners only if they heed, that this tobacco must be smoked slowly and cool!
