Manufacturer Description:
A recommendation to all those who so far preferred flavored mixtures and would like to make acquaintance with real tobacco. Golden Virginia, Maryland and a pinch of Dark Fired Virginia, giving depth oto the flavor. Precious Oriental grades giving a delicately bitter tone, complemented by spicy Latakia.
Wide cut with equally slow burn, particularly in larger pipes.

Characterisation:
UnThe Gordon Pym surprises first of all with its unusual cut, called “wild cut”: the individual tobacco particles are barely a centimeter long, but cut it several millimeters wide strips and thus guarantee a slow and steady burn. The color spectrum ranges from medium to dark brown to almost black particles. The aroma is smoky, as expected by an english tobacco but not with the rigor that one often combines with Latakia. In fact, there is something sweet to sniff and although the manufacturer does not mentions any flavor it reminds of fruits stored in rum. The tobacco can be immediately filled, as it is neither too wet nor too dry.

Plugging:
The Gordon Pym can be stuffed like any loose mixture: downside start easily and then tighter at the top. Due to the special cut do not fill all the way up to the edge, because the tobacco particles are resting rather loosely in the pipe and when they are ignited easily trickle over the edge.

Light up:
Due to its well-balanced moisture and also because of the cut the Gordon Pym can be ignited easily. The tamper is just to be used to prevent the fluttery tobacco particles on escape. It is best to keep the pipe opening as horizontally as possible first, until the filling is slightly burned down. Using the tamper after that is hardly necessary because the Gordon Pym burns down evenly.

Smoking  properties:
The Gordon Pym surprises for an english tobacco with a fine and light smoke, which is still barely sweet. Even with more vigorous smoking the Gordon Pym tends not to gargle or even to bite on the tongue. It can therefore be smoked good by the way and without attention, but is perhaps a little too light for enjoying it in fresh air. The flavors are still spicy-tart, as we know it from the less sweet sorts of Virginias, with clear echoes of Latakia, whose smoky notes clearly remember incense and a very delicate, rather resinous sweetness that is probably due to the Orient. The taste is retained until the end of the filling. What remains is medium gray ash and almost no condensate, which is hardly calling the pipe cleaners.

Redolency:
The Gordon Pym creates for an english tobacco a surprising, slightly sweet room note, nevertheless, its content of Latakia and Orient can not hide and so it recommends for like-minded groups more, as for non-smokers societies.

Conclusion:
The Gordon Pym is a Wild Cut in all shades of brown with black sprinklings which betray the English influence. It is very well conditioned and its packabillity and its good-natured  burning-behaviour requires little attention. This and also due to its low nicotine and its lightness it is suitable both for curious beginners, as well as for the whole day, because it is not heavy, yet represents a representative of the english direction with typical smoky-spicy notes of Latakia and velvety Oriental.
