Characterisation:
The Windjammer is packed in a round tin with a ring-pull closure. Since only a plastic lid closes the tin after tearing it open, the tobacco should be decanted into an airtight container for longer storage. Under the cover paper and wrapped in cardboard, there is a medium-fine Ready Rubbed with evenly marbled light, medium and dark brown. The scent is less reminiscent of rum than surprisingly of sweet-sour red berries. Since the moisture content is very balanced, the Windjammer can be plugged immediately after opening.
Plugging:
Preparing the Windjammer as a finer Ready Rubbed makes plugging easier. If you don't press too hard, you will achieve a filling that gives the tobacco room to develop.
Light up:
With a few loose crumbs on top, the first flame almost creates a permanent ember. Nevertheless, you should press them down lightly with the tamper to create an even glow with the second flame.
Smoking properties:
The Windjammer shows both the basic tobaccos and the aroma used very clearly. While the Virginia contributes roasted notes and the Latakia provides a spicy undertone, Burley and Cavendish round it all off with their mildness. The soft smoke thus transports the aroma, which was already reminiscent of red fruits in the cold scent. The rum used seems to be of a fruity variety, so that one feels reminded of juicy, sweet and at the same time finely spicy blackberries. The aroma is also clearly noticeable through the nose. The balance invites you to make yourself comfortable with the Windjammer. In the end, only a few unburned crumbs and some medium gray ash remain.
Redolency:
Although the room note of the Windjammer shows the aroma used, one should not forget to be considerate of non-smokers in view of the spicy tobacco.
Conclusion:
The Windjammer, whose tobaccos in all shades of brown have been cut into a medium-fine Ready Rubbed, is just as easy to prepare as it is to smoke. Without being an English blend, it is spicy and unlike some Virginia smokes smooth. Toasted notes and mildness combine with the pleasantly sweet, clear and yet not unobtrusively fruity rum aroma. This makes the Windjammer a tobacco that people like to have a leisurely time with, whether with or without a suitable glass of rum.
