We are pleased to present to you this year a Limited Edition from the Charatan brand: the "Charatan Special Edition 160th Anniversary". The name Charatan is well-known to pipe smokers worldwide, as we're speaking of one of the oldest pipe brands around. Frederick Charatan opened his first pipe shop in London's Mansell Street back in 1863. In the early years, he mainly produced meerschaum pipes. Success didn't take long to arrive. However, the worldwide breakthrough came with the switch to briar pipes. Until 1960, the company remained in family ownership and was then sold to an international conglomerate. The illustrious name Charatan was in danger of fading away over the years until our Scottish friends from Tor Imports took it upon themselves to revive Charatan in 2017. Together with Tor Imports' master blenders, we created, tried, and discarded many blends. It had to be a blend that lived up to the great name, traditional yet with a modern touch. It took a while, but in the end, we found the perfect blend ratio: golden brown Burley, nutty as you could wish for, accompanied by a large portion of naturally sweet Virginia. This gently creamy blend is perfected by a portion of Black Cavendish, which excellently carries an aroma of plum, vanilla, and a hint of Mirabelle. At no time do the tobacco flavors get overshadowed by the aroma. It's just a hint that gently envelops the palate with each puff and also provides an excellent room note. Various cuts deliver a cool smoking experience. The Charatan comes in a shiny royal blue tin adorned with a magnificent unicorn. The Scottish national animal symbolizes Scotland's long and myth-filled history. Nothing fits better as a crest for one of the oldest pipe brands in the world.
