2024 is a special year for 5THAvenue: Founded in 1989, this year marks the company's 35th anniversary. As we know, special occasions call for something truly exceptional. Therefore, in 2023, we began the search for a unique pairing combination in honor of our company’s anniversary. We are delighted to present the single cask bottling "Alte Zwetschke - Cigar Selection No.1" by Alois Gölles. This barrel-aged distillate is offered exclusively by 5THAvenue and is reserved solely for our specialist retail partners.

Among the vast array of fruit varieties, we chose "Alte Zwetschke" (Old Plum), as the aroma of barrel-aged plum brandies harmonizes exceptionally well with both delicate and highly aromatic Habanos. Only fully ripe and therefore particularly aromatic fruits are used in the copper stills of Alois Gölles, whose extensive experience in distilling premium fruit brandies and aging them in oak barrels ensures a distillate of the highest caliber.As a first step, we had the privilege of selecting four casks from the "10-year-old distillates" category from the vast cask storage, built over decades by this culinary pioneer from Riegersburg, Styria. Due to natural influences during the aging process, each cask developed unique characteristics, and we decided to set the alcohol content of the Cigar Selection No.1 at 43% ABV. This alcohol strength has proven to be very cigar-friendly in the past.

In the second step—because the result of our selection should not only appeal to us—we presented the four pre-selected cask samples to a jury in both Germany and Austria. This jury included trade journalists, spirits experts, winemakers, and restaurateurs, all with a strong affinity for cigars. Naturally, a variety of Habanos accompanied the tasting. Ultimately, the nearly unanimous vote was for the cask labeled "AZ 1609." A remarkable interplay between the aromas of fully ripe plums and perfectly integrated oak wood makes the "Alte Zwetschke Cigar Selection No.1" an extraordinary companion for Habanos.
