Characterisation:
Jamaican Flake's rectangular tin contains the flakes wrapped in wax paper. The cardboard cover is decorated with an engraving of the old tobacco factory. The light, medium, and dark brown marbled flakes are speckled with golden yellow and smell of dried apples. They are somewhat crumbly but elastic, thanks to the balanced moisture content of the tobacco. They can be given into the pipe immediately after opening the tin.
Plugging:
With a little attention, you can give the Jamaican Flake to your pipe in a folded and crumpled form. However, it's easier to grind the flakes into a ready-rubbed mixture. Either way, you should fill the Jamaican Flake loosely and not overfill the pipe, allowing the compressed tobacco to expand freely.
Light up:
Many flakes expand slightly under the heat of the flame. The Jamaican Flake exhibits this behavior only slightly. It can be easily straightened with a tamper. Then, you fire it evenly a second time.
Smoking properties:
The Jamaican Flake delivers a strikingly rich smoke. In fact, neither the aroma nor the natural sweetness are the main focus. The dark air-cured tobaccos, in particular, are smoky and robust. Accompanied by toasted bread and a hint of nuttiness from Virginia and Burley. Only when the Jamaican Flake is deliberately kept cool, do soft, chocolatey aromas emerge. It's advisable not to puff too hard on the pipe anyway, as the tobacco tends to gargle a little if smoking is too intense. For the sake of the aroma, you should control this a bit. It's worth it, because then the tobacco burns down smooth leaving a few unburned crumbs, medium-gray ash, and some condensate in the pipe.
Redolency:
While the Jamaican Flake isn't strongly flavored, the tobacco aroma isn't overly intense. Tolerant non-smokers may find this a positive.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
The Jamaican Flake consists of slices marbled in all shades of brown and specled golden-yellow. While this sweet-smelling tobacco is relatively easy to prepare, you shouldn´t be complete inexperienced. The aroma benefits from a mindful cool, slow smoke. This reveals smoky spice, roasted notes, and nutty aromas, as well as the chocolatey flavor that can be attributed to the rum used. The subtle use of the flavor also makes the Jamaican Flake appealing to smokers of natural blends.
