Germany has always been the most important market for the Danish brand Stanwell. German pipe smokers have had a particular connection with the brand from the very beginning.

The foundation for this success was laid by founder Poul Nielsen as early as 1946, when he explored new approaches to pipe design. He relied on the expertise of local pipe makers, above all Sixten Ivarsson, and gave them the greatest possible freedom to reinterpret classic English pipe shapes. Through small, subtle modifications, a completely new and distinctive design language emerged. The so-called Danish Design was born and began its journey around the world.

Many Stanwell models still enjoy cult status today. Over the decades, this has resulted in an extensive portfolio of iconic shapes. While smaller pipes are particularly popular in the Danish home market, Stanwell also adapts its models to the needs of different markets. In Germany, for example, larger pipe bowls suitable for 9 mm filters have traditionally been particularly popular.
