Designer Line

For many years Stanwell has had a very close and fruitful cooperation with many of Denmark´s master pipe makers. It started back in the fifties when Sixten Ivarsson designed some excellent shapes which have become classics. Over the years, many pipe smokers have asked us to take up production of some of the old shapes, which are typical of the various designers. Therefore, we have decided to bring back some of the old shapes and market them from time to time. For the last couple of years Tom Eltang has done a great job for Stanwell by improving some of the shapes and designing new one like the filterless Pipe of the Year. We have started our “Designer Line” by re-turning three of his annual designs.

Since childhood, Tom has been fascinated by pipes and he has never been in doubt that he wanted to be a pipe maker. At the age of 16 Tom started his apprenticeship with Anne Julie, which lasted for a little more than three years. In 1980 Tom started his own workshop making pipes and repairing them, but he also took time to make some designs for Stanwell. This cooperation has lasted ever since and it has now become a tradition for Tom to design the filterless Stanwell Pipe of the Year.
