Manufacturer Description:
A Dark Cavendish is blended with Burley and Virginia tobaccos and again pressed loosely. The Black Cavendish leaves are fermented for a third time. Enhanced with cinnamon, mirabelle plum and Jamaican rum , the flakes "crumble in the pipe" and open up the delicate fruity taste.
Characterisation:
The Rose & Crown Easy Flake is clean and accurate stacked in the box. The tobacco is marbled very balanced in medium and dark brown with bright golden brown veins. The aroma is intensely sweet, little rum or cinnamon and reminiscent of different stone fruits, such as the promised mirabelle plums, but also apricots and cherries even are to sniff. The tobacco itself is not to smell. The flakes are well conditioned, easy to grind, but not so crumbly, as one might suspect by the manufacturer description.
Plugging:
The Rose & Crown Easy Flake can be consumed as described by the manufacturer, so that it crumbles in the pipe. But it is also possible to bring the flake bent and folded into the pipe. However, the procedure, the Rose & Crown Easy Flake is easy to fill, as it hardly rises under the flame. A few crumbs of tobacco on top facilitate the lighting in addition.
Light up:
The Rose & Crown Easy Flake hardly requires attention when lighting. One flame is usually sufficient, slightly smooth the surface with the tamper and the filling burns usually without relighting until the end.
Smoking properties:
The Rose & Crown Easy Flake delivers what it promises - it is sweet and fruity. Juicy mirabelle and tangy rum mitigate a surprisingly spicy ground tobacco that can withstand the strong flavor well. It wants to be smoked slowly, so it does not bite on the tongue, also harmonizes the natural tobacco taste and the aroma best together when it is smoked cool. As expected for an aromatic, there is some condensate, but otherwise only medium gray ash and few unburned tobacco crumbs remain in the pipe.
Redolency:
The room note of the Rose & Crown Easy Flake is "pipe typical" sweet and societies that tolerate this, will more likely be perceive this as pleasant.
Conclusion:
The Rose & Crown Easy Flake is an accurate cut flake, showing the different brown shades from very light to dark brown very evenly. While its handling and strength it is very beginner-friendly, it does require a certain attention to it not to smoke too hastily. If it is possible, however, to keep the pipe cool with thoughtful sips, the Rose & Crown Easy Flake offers a harmonious blend of spicy, but not too strong tobacco and a sweet fruity aroma that almost recalls to a "smokable dessert". For attentive flake-beginners and flavor lovers an interesting classic.
