Manufacturer Description:
The "Hamburger Pipe Round of 1982" was once created by the tobacco master Jürgen Westphal for his enthusiastic pipe friends, a sophisticated, composed mixture. A full-bodied English Latakia mixture with a significant amount of Ready Rubbed Virginia, which provides gentle tones and natural sweetness. A fantastically smooth smoking pleasure without heaviness, recommended to all “nature lovers”.
Characterisation:
The tall, round tin of the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau is tightly closed with a metal lid that you can press in. It houses a mixture of medium brown Ready Rubbed, light fibers and black-brown leave-shredds. The dark scent mixes light smoke with slightly fruity sweetness. This is reminiscent of the fruit harvest time in autumn. Since the partially compressed tobacco retains some residual moisture, it should be allowed to air out briefly before plugging.
Plugging:
The portion of Ready Rubbed in the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau does not complicate plugging. However, the pipe should not be too small or filled with too much pressure so that the tobacco can develop.
Light up:
Even under the flame, the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau behaves undemandingly. Just smooth the surface a little with the tamper and fire it evenly a second time.
Smoking properties:
The Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau partly shows unusual aromas. The Latakia adds the usual ethereal incense note. It is spicy and light. The roasted notes are also known from Virginia tobaccos. But then you smoke more consciously and catch a glimpse of something that is slightly sour and dry, reminiscent of fresh wood shavings. A spicy touch that makes you want to catch after its taste. Until you notice a sweetness in the background, like dried apples. When smoking so attentively, the pipe may go out. But if you light it again, it doesn't affect the taste. Since only a little fine, light ash, a few unburned crumbs and hardly any condensate remain, there is no need for laborious cleaning.
Redolency:
The Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau is present in the room due to its Latakia content. If you want to smoke the tobacco in company of non-smokers, you should keep this in mind.
Conclusion:
Even in its presentation as a mixture of Ready Rubbed with Latakia, the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau presents itself as a rather unusual representative of the English style. It's quite easy to prepare, but its aroma is all the more characterful. While Latakia and Virginia initially appear as usual with incense and roasted notes, clear special features become apparent when smoking comfortably. Woody notes like wood shavings can be perceived, as can the underlying dried fruit sweetness, which is reminiscent of apple chips. Although you may have to refire, that shouldn't stop you from getting to know the extraordinary but natural aroma of the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau. Anyone who prefers English blends and is looking for something new and not absolutely typical should also try the Hamburger Pfeifenrunde Blau.
