Manufacturer Description:
A very tasty treat. Gentle, sweet, sparkling, with a fresh, fruity room note. Wide square cut, burning slowly and cool. In larger pipes the Lütte Deern develops into its true bloom.
Characterisation:
As is typical for the company, Lütte Dern is packaged in a small round tin that is taller than it is wide and sealed with an aluminum tear-off lid and an additional plastic lid. If you want to store the opened tobacco for longer, you should transfer it to a container that closes more tightly. The flaky cut in the different shades of brown is somewhat reminiscent of crumbled cubes. A cutting variant that the manufacturer calls square cut. In between there are isolated fibers of a very fine Ready Rubbed. You first smell a sweet, fruity note, then you get a hint of vanilla. Since the tobacco is neither too moist nor too dry, Lütte Deern can be plugged immediately.
Plugging:
The square cut of the Lütte Dern can be easily filled into the pipe. You shouldn't choose this too small and - unlike usual - the tobacco appreciates being plugged more tightly.
Light up:
The Lütte Dern expands significantly under the first flame. When plugged tighter, nothing trickles over the edge of the pipe. The surface should then be carefully smoothed with the tamper before lighting again.
Smoking properties:
The tobacco lives up to the name Lütte Dern. Sweet and flattering, it is able to charm you like a little girl with an innocent look. The smoke is noticeably mild, almost creamy. In the pipe, the tobacco also shows the berry tone that is already noticeable in the cold scent and, above all, a clear sweetness that can be attributed to the vanilla flavoring. This is rounded off by hints of roasted bread. As with all flavored tobaccos, don't get too greedy to avoid burning problems. It's best to smoke it comfortably. Then at the end you only have to remove a few unburned fibers, light ash and some condensate.
Redolency:
The Lütte Dern clearly shows its aroma in the room. For non-smokers, this “typical pipe scent” may be nostalgic. Consideration should still be a given.
Conclusion:
Lütte Dern is prepared in the unusual square cut variant. This makes it easy to plug the various brown-toned tobacco. Although it requires some attention during preparation and during the smoking process, not completely inexperienced smokers should hardly have any problems with the Lütte Dern. The tobacco rewards cozy smoking with creamy smoke, which not only conveys a pleasantly natural, yet sweet and fruity vanilla aroma. It gets the necessary rounding off with a fine roasted bread note, which allows the basic tobaccos to come to the fore. This clearly elevates the Lütte Derm above the vanilla flavors that sometimes seem quite artificial. If you're in the mood for something sweet, you'll definitely be well served with Lütte Dern.
