The Dunhill Ye Olde Signe is a blend of different Virginias of different colors for pipe-lovers who prefer pure pleasure. Virginia tobacco is so facetious in its taste profile that it does not require any further components. This opinion was already in 1915, when the Dunhill Ye Olde Signe was introduced for the first time, which also explains the unusual name. Ye Olde Signe is an Old-English form for The Old Sign.

Characterisation:
The representation on the tin of the Ye Olde Signe is "retro" and with its naïve and charming style makes a smile, but it depends on the content. It is firmly pressed into the tin and seems a little damp, but this impression is deceptive and you do not have to let the tobacco dry before filling it into the pipe. The Ye Olde Signe is a Loose Cut, which - as was customary in old times - was cut finely and short. The color is light to medium brown, as does the sweetish hay-breeze, reminiscent of a very good Virginia cigarette.

Plugging:
The Ye Olde Signe is uncomplicated – as usual with Loose Cuts – filled into the pipe: below loosely and firmer upwards.

Light up:
After two flames and a gentle re-stuffing in between, the Ye Olde Signe burns until the end.

Smoking  properties:
The Ye Olde Signe is strong smoky, which leads not to be too greedy. If the smoking is too violently, the tobacco tends to gargle also, like many Virginias. If, on the other hand, the pipe is kept cool, the nutritious tobacco notes show nutty aromas and a pleasant sweetness reminiscent of dried fruits. The burning is very quiet, just after the first half give a plugging, in order to bring the embers to the tobacco, then in the end only bright fine ash and hardly condensate are left.

Redolency:
The room touch of the Ye Olde Signe is for real tobacco, but slightly sweet and can therefore be accepted by tolerant non-smokers.

Conclusion:
The Ye Olde Signe is a pleasant old-fashioned tobacco. This can be seen in the design of the tin as well as in the appearance. The classic short and narrow cut, as well as the unadulterated, hay-like smell of Virginia, reminds of the "good old days" of British tobacco art. Kept cool, the Ye Olde Signe shows strong, spicy-smoky tobacco flavor, the nutty aromas, which are in good Virginias and rounded off by a pleasant sweetness of dried fruits. No tobacco for absolute beginners, but for friends of unadulterated "old-fashioned" tobaccos an interesting new variety for lovers.
