Manufacturer Description:
Pure, smooth and fermented Black Cavendish. Discreetly sweet flavour with precious spices. Long Cut. Pleasant to the tongue and aromatic.
Characterisation:
The Black and Bright comes packaged both in the pouch, which makes it practical to take along, as well as in larger tins, so that you can store it better or if you like it so much also can stockpile. The freshly opened packaging emits a sweet alcoholic, slightly dull fragrance that vaguely reminds of vanilla, but can not be classified exactly. As usual for Black Cavendish, the tobacco is dark brown to black, some fibers show a bright "rime", which should not be confused with mold, just because the tobacco looks a bit damp - it is crystallized sugar from the casing. Although the tobacco is short and crumbly so it reminds a bit of black tea, it also contains some coarse leaf pieces and leaf ribs. To achieve a more even burning, you can let the Black and Bright dry for a good hour.
Plugging:
Since the Black and Bright is mainly composed of rather small fibers, it can be relatively easily plugged with a little attention, even despite its coarser components. Either sort out the larger pieces or crush them, before filling the bottom of the pipe loose and upwards tighter. Then there is no obstruction for an even burning.
Light up:
Despite the slightly inconsistent cut, two flames are enough to ignite the Black and Bright evenly. After the first flame, as usual, gently use the tamper to smoothen the surface, then give fire again, whereupon the Black and Bright glows until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the Black and Bright is surprisingly spicy, which is probably due to the aromatization with spices, but looks very natural. There is also a sweeter note in the background, reminiscent of vanilla. As with many flavored tobaccos, one should take care to keep the pipe cool, otherwise the smoke can tingle on the tongue. But the burning is otherwise uncomplicated and quiet, only rarely it may be necessary to press with the tamper, the embers to the tobacco. The remaining powdery, white ashes and the conspicuously few condensate also make the cleaning very pleasant.
Redolency:
The redolence of the tobacco is sweet and reminds especially non-smokers of the supposedly typical for the pipe vanilla tobacco fragrance, so that the Black and Bright in tolerant company should not attract attention./font>
Conclusion:
Despite the cutting interspersed with coarse leaf parts the blackbrown Black and Bright is relatively easy to plug and ignite. Due to its flavoring with spices, the tobacco in the basic tone is rather spicy. But always comes in the background a vanilla sweetness, which gives the necessary rounding off. However, since one should be careful to keep the pipe cool, the Black and Bright is more suitable for not quite inexperienced smoker. Then the Black and Bright turns out to be not overly flavored tobacco, yet has everything that lovers of aromatics appreciate so much.
