Cumpay Viva el Puro!
In 1999, Maya Selva created the Cumpay brand. These cigars are composed exclusively from Nicaraguan tobaccos. The additional challenge was learning to master the much fuller-bodied and stronger tobaccos (compared to Flor de Selva) grown in the northwestern Jalapa Valley on volcanic soil. This gives the Puro series its expressive notes of roasted coffee, leather, and hazelnut. The wrapper is grown from H-2000 seed in the Estelí Valley, which not only enhances the blend but gives the cigar an oily, maple-brown appearance. By the way, the name originates from the Tawahka Indians, who once placed their tobacco leaves in pits and protected them with palm leaves. They rolled the fermented leaves into »Puros Cumpay«.
The multi-award-winning Cumpay was crowned Cigar of the Year in 2007 — the first Nicaraguan Puro ever to receive this honor.
Taste: A Puro entirely composed of Nicaraguan tobaccos, with expressive notes of roasted coffee, leather, and hazelnut. Full-bodied, powerful, and aromatic.
