E. P. Carrillo Pledge Apogee The pinnacle of Pledge In September 2020, the »EPC Pledge« was released in two vitolas: a Robusto named »Prequel« and the »Sojourn«, a Toro. The series quickly became the hottest offering in the cigar world of 2020. Cigar Aficionado agreed and crowned it »Cigar of the Year« just months later, with an unprecedented rating of 98 points. Ernesto—widely known in the industry as the Ringmaster and beloved by a large following of aficionados who favor large ring gauges—felt a desire to bring the »Pledge« taste experience to these enthusiasts as well. Ernesto didn’t hesitate and delivered the »Pledge Apogee« to all of us. His goal was a »Pledge« with a large ring gauge, so he experimented with various blends, adjusting the proportion of Ligero tobacco. Transferring the strength, intensity, and complexity of a smaller ring gauge perfectly into a larger one is no easy task. But Ernesto would not be Mr. Ringmaster if he hadn’t mastered it—and so he presents us with the impressive Double Toro »Apogee«, featuring a 58 ring gauge. We highly recommend this cigar if you enjoy intense, aromatic smokes. »Apogee« translates to »pinnacle«, and this name fits the cigar perfectly. With the »Prequel«, Ernesto already secured his legendary status—and with the »Apogee«, he further cements his Hall-of-Fame reputation. Taste: The »Pledge« is hardly surpassed in intensity. Within seconds of lighting, black pepper floods your palate. Following this spicy, powerful start are notes of dark coffee and subtle cedar. As the smoke progresses, the black pepper is gradually pushed into the background by cocoa and a hint of caramel. The finale impresses with hickory nut and a slightly fruity note.
