CAO Pilón When the CAO blending team set out to create this new cigar for the CAO Classic Series, they first delved into the past. There, they discovered a fermentation technique originating from Cuba, in which tobacco leaves are naturally fermented in small batches. It’s a time-consuming and labor-intensive process that hasn’t been used in about half a century.
But Rick Rodriguez and the CAO team chose this exact method—because Pilón fermentation results in an explosion of flavor while naturally reducing the sugar content of the wrapper, which in turn improves the cigar’s burn. The blending team applied the Pilón fermentation exclusively to the silky Ecuadorian wrapper leaves and combined the result with a filler made of Estelí and Ometepe tobaccos. The result: cigars with a rich color and deep flavor, offering notes of wood and spice, rounded off by a hint of sweetness. Taste: A harmonious and complex flavor profile with notes of wood, earth, chocolate, and pepper.
