Discovery Edition - Toro Gordo 152mm / 21.43mm / Box of 20
Villiger 1492 Discovery Edition
A tribute to Christopher Columbus and his fleet at the time.
This year marks the 531st anniversary of Christopher Columbus' expedition – a journey that was originally intended to take the Italian navigator to Asia. Instead, his crew sighted land in the Caribbean on October 12, 1492, setting in motion a series of events that would lead to the European colonization of the New World and, importantly, the first introduction of tobacco to Europe, the so-called "Old World." Columbus set out with a small fleet of three ships: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. However, the remains of these ships and the three subsequent expeditions remain lost, despite decades of searching by archaeologists and shipwreck hunters. "The Santa Maria is considered the only ship of the first fleet to be lost." According to Columbus' logbook, the Santa Maria ran aground on a reef on Christmas Eve 1492 off present-day Cap-Haïtien in Haiti. The hull was dismantled and used to build the fortified village of La Navidad. In honor of Christopher Columbus, his crew, and the ships used at the time, we have decided to release a special edition of the VILLIGER 1492 under the name DISCOVERY EDITION. The box lid, as well as the inner lid, features the three ships of Christopher Columbus in stormy seas, beautifully painted by an artist. Also noteworthy is the appearance of the cigar rings, which also depict the Santa Maria.
Only the finest tobaccos were used in the production of these very special cigars in the Dominican Republic, which were rolled exclusively for this limited edition. An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper is paired with a Piloto Ligero binder and Criollo '98 filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. The interested smoker can expect aromas of roasted notes, espresso, nuts, and sweet spices. The VILLIGER 1492 DISCOVERY EDITION offers the aficionado a mild, slightly creamy cigar that promises a classic Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade cigar experience. This premium cigar is perfectly suited for smokers looking for something special who prefer mild yet aromatic cigars. The format chosen for this unique execution is a TORO GORDO. With a length of 152 mm and a diameter of 21.43 mm (6 x 54), the VILLIGER 1492 DISCOVERY EDITION promises an enjoyable smoking time of up to 60 minutes.
