How it all began...

The Swiss-German tobacco company founded by Heinrich Villiger celebrated its 120th anniversary in September 2008 with a grand event in Switzerland. To mark this special occasion, the company launched its first own premium cigar under the name VILLIGER 1888. This cigar was produced in the Dominican Republic using perfectly aged tobaccos and created with the close involvement of Heinrich Villiger himself, who was personally responsible for the blend. The result: medium-bodied cigars that impressed with their rich bouquet and refinement.

Fourteen years later – in 2022 – with the VILLIGER 1888 Dominican Republic line now firmly established in Germany and internationally recognized for its quality, a new line is introduced to the market: the VILLIGER 1888 Nicaragua. What you should know: since October 2021, VILLIGER has been operating its own state-of-the-art handmade cigar factory in Estelí, the heart of Nicaragua's cigar industry.

VILLIGER 1888 stands for a proud tradition that dates back to the company's founding year, 1888, and also for the first handmade premium longfiller to bear the company’s name. The VILLIGER 1888 Nicaragua masterfully combines tradition and modernity. Its unique blend and the modern design of the box embody the fresh, clean style that today's aficionados are looking for. Building on the already successful VILLIGER 1888 Nicaragua line, a new format has now been created—perfectly matched to the tobacco composition.
