When José Seijas had achieved everything, he stepped down in 2012 as Vice President and General Manager of the world’s largest cigar factory – Tabacalera de Garcia. But instead of enjoying a well-earned retirement, he chose to start over. Together with his son, he founded the brand Matilde, fulfilling a lifelong dream. With over 40 years of experience in the tobacco business, José Seijas brings invaluable knowledge and skill in selecting premium tobacco. With Matilde, he has created nothing short of a small masterpiece. The name Matilde is a tribute to traditional Dominican cigar craftsmanship. Seijas found inspiration for the name while reading books and came across La Matilde, a former cigar factory in Santiago from the 19th century. The factory closed in 1910 following the death of its founder, Simeon Mencia. Despite its brief existence, the manufactory held significant importance. The original factory building still stands today.
