E. P. Carrillo Connecticut Broadleaf Ernesto Perez-Carrillo surprises the audience at Intertabac 2025 with another evolutionary stage of his award-winning Encore series, first launched in 2018. Originally reserved for the U.S. market, the Black is now being released in Europe following high demand, after last year’s introduction of the Noir. The blend reads like a best-of compilation of the world’s finest tobacco-growing regions. The deep black wrapper is a U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro, paired with a Mexican San Andrés binder. The Nicaraguan filler tobaccos are sourced from the premium regions of Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa. According to Ernesto, the goal was to place the spotlight firmly on the wrapper. It underwent an 18-month fermentation process, followed by an additional three years of aging. After rolling, every single cigar matured for another six months in the aging room. The wait was worth it. The Connecticut Broadleaf delivers rich, full-bodied, and complex flavors unique to this wrapper leaf. Expect a fascinating mix of dark chocolate, espresso, and spices, complemented by subtle notes of leather and sweet tobacco. The smoke is smooth yet full-bodied – perfect for those seeking an intense but well-balanced smoking experience.
