A man with a dream

In 1998, Eduardo Fernandez went to Nicaragua with a dream: to grow the best tobacco in the world that captures the essence of the old Cuban cigars. To achieve this, he traveled to Cuba, assembled a world-class team of Cuban agronomists who had worked at the highest levels of Cubatobaco—many of them for over half a century—and brought them to Nicaragua.

These men supervised tobacco production during the golden age of Cuban cigars, knew exactly the flavor for which they were famous, and realized they could restore the style and aroma of the Cuban leaf using traditional Cuban methods combined with the resources available to them in Nicaragua. The tobacco they cultivated is called "Aganorsa Leaf."

As a vertically integrated company, Aganorsa Leaf oversees the entire production process—from seed to ash—ensuring that every cigar consistently delivers maximum enjoyment. Every cigar rolled in their factories in Nicaragua and Miami includes the finest Aganorsa leaves and is made under the watchful eyes of Eduardo, his son Max, and their team of Cuban supervisors. "Arsenio Was a Giant"

Arsenio was born in Cuba in 1934 and dedicated his entire life to working with tobacco. In Cuba, he was responsible for tobacco processing—particularly fermentation—for Cubatabaco in Pinar del Río. After more than half a century of work in his homeland, Arsenio joined Aganorsa in Nicaragua, where he spent 18 years developing and expanding the company's tobacco-growing operations. In honor of his legacy, Aganorsa is now releasing one of his favorite blends.

"Arsenio was a giant of the Cuban tobacco industry," says Eduardo Fernandez, founder and owner of Aganorsa Leaf. "He was a self-taught master who came from humble beginnings—a true craftsman. He was an extraordinary man who played a pivotal role in creating the distinctive flavor profile that defines the richness of Aganorsa tobacco. This blend was his personal favorite and serves as a tribute to his life's work."

The Arsenio is presented in blue lacquered boxes containing 15 cigars each. Initially, two vitolas will be available for the German market: a 5¼ x 54 Robusto and a 6 x 52 Toro. The blend is produced annually in limited quantities. For the 2024 production, only 2,000 boxes each of the Toro and Robusto have been made.
