Manufacturer Description:
A luxury mixture with very fine balanced various tobaccos. A high portion of flake, broad and bright Virginia, two different fine crafty Virginias, mild Black Cavendish and Burley. The aroma is discreetly fruity and somehow fresh. Very good even burning, light and tongue-friendly with a comfortable body.
Characterisation:
The Ashton Platinum is a medium brown, wild cut blend with subtle aromatic odor. The aroma smells of berries with a hint of lemon and maybe some vanilla. The various types of cuts with the included flake pieces see at first glance somewhat coarse. But if you trickle the tobacco through your fingers, it feels homogeneous, mellow and optimally conditioned.
Plugging:
The Ashton Platinum could be plugged well. Slightly grated between the fingers it could be stuffed as any mixture: Either in layers or twisted to loose balls, which one should all press down slightly and even.
Light up:
The Ashton Platinum could be light up easy with 1 or 2 flames. The tobacco tends to straighten up a little bit. That could be regulated with the tamper without the need of re-ignition.
Smoking properties:
After lighting up the Ashton Platinum unfolds its delicate, fruity aroma with a slightly sour, citrus-like flavour. Of the varieties of tobacco fresh Virginia and nutty Burley are remarkable. In order to recognize the nuances of flavours the Ashton Platinum must be smoked slowly with some attention to the temperature, as it’ll be biting otherwise. Handling and glowing down are good-natured and because the Ashton Platinum is a light tobacco, it’s well suited for beginners. The aroma is almost constant until the last third before it subsides somewhat. The tobacco glows down with some condensate development to a medium grey ash.
Redolency:
The redolence of the Ashton Platinum is subtly fruity and sweet. The sweetness could come from a hint of vanilla, the fruit flavour is reminiscent of berries and peach. The redolence is pleasant and the Ashton Platinum is therefore suitable for any cosy society.
Conclusion:
The Ashton Platinum is a medium brown, wild cut mixture with a subtle aroma reminiscent of berries with a hint of lemon and possibly vanilla. Despite the many different types of cuts and the proportion of flake tobacco it is mellow and not too coarse. The humidity is optimal. The handling is both the plug as well as light up and glowing down very good-natured. After lighting up the Ashton Platinum must be smoked with some attention to the temperature, so one could detect the subtle aromas. In addition to fruity berry it tastes slightly sour as citrus, fresh from Virginia and nutty from Burley. The aroma is relatively constant until the last third. The redolence is subtly aromatic with a scent that reminds of berries and peach with some sweetness that could come from vanilla. Since the tobacco handling is rather good-natured the Ashton Platinum is suited for both beginners and more experienced smokers who enjoy a subtle aromatic blend.
