Great Dixter is composed of medium-brown ready rubbed Virginia flake and a pinch of White Burley. This medium-strong blend is flavored with a bold floral aroma. A new delightful experience for the aficionado of unconventional blends.
The Great Dixter is a very finely rubbed and narrowly cut Ready Rubbed, which is primarily medium and light brown, but also shows lighter parts. The scent is very intense and penetrating and is reminiscent of a high-quality rose soap, which arouses curiosity about the taste to be expected. The consistency fresh out of the tin is so ideal that you can plug the tobacco straight away.
Since the Great Dixter is a very finely rubbed Ready Rubbed with an additional portion of loose cut, you can simply plug it. You get a well-filled pipe, if you start loosely at the bottom and end up getting tighter towards the top.
The finely prepared texture of the Great Dixter also comes into its own when lighting up. Usually one flame, a short press with the tamper and another flame is enough to create an even glow.
The Great Dixter shows its aroma with every puff. It is intense without completely overpowering the underlying tobaccos. The Virginias are spicy, slightly tart and reminiscent of wild berries, but grassy notes can also be tasted. The Burley contributes some nut and wood. The balanced overlying aroma is slightly soapy and perfume-like, as is known from typical Irish blends. Like the scent of geraniums, it is sweet with a citrusy tartness. As the smoke progresses, the intensity of the aroma decreases somewhat - in favor of the basic tobaccos - but it remains until the end of the filling. The burn is remarkably cool for a flavored tobacco, uncomplicated and slow thanks to the Ready Rubbed. If you have to re-fire, this does not damage the taste. The remaining medium-grey ash and the small amount of condensate can be easily cleaned. Since the aroma can leave an aftertaste, you should reserve a separate pipe for the Great Dixter if you want to enjoy other tobaccos unadulterated.
The smoke of the Great Dixter is characterized by the unusual aroma, which can be quite irritating to non-smokers. One should therefore consider where and in which company one would like to smoke the Great Dixter.
The Great Dixter is a typical Irish tobacco, but with an atypical flavor. The mixture is easy to plug and ignite and requires hardly any attention during the smoking process. This can be dedicated to the aroma game. The powerful citrus-perfumed floral aromas last until the end of the filling. It is intense, but does not completely overlay the basic tobaccos, so that they participate in the taste with berry sweetness and nutty notes and a well-rounded impression is created. With its medium strength, the Great Dixter is well suited for anyone who wants to try an Irish blend and is in the mood for something unusual. But lovers of this type of tobacco will certainly want to smoke it more often.
