The No. 1Stanwell pipes - the conception of quality for 65 years.
In 1942 a pipe production from Danish beech wood was set up under modest conditions in a small town on Zealand. At that time it was impossible to import briar pipes from the traditional suppliers in England and France.
The shape of the first pipe was a bulldog - typical English style and small because of lack of sufficient pipe tobacco supplies. When times had returned to normal the production of the same shape continued but on the basis of briarroot.
Today many pipe smokers are again asking for smaller pipes. Not because of lack of pipe tobacco, but to be able to have a quick smoke due to smoking restrictions and perhaps righter schedules, restrictions and perhaps tighter schedules. Therefore, it seemed like a perfect idea to reproduce the very first pipe shape made by the late Mr. Poul Stanwell.
We are sure you will enjoy smoking this vintage replica of the original Stanwell pipe, which constituted the platform for what later on became the Stanwell pipe factory.
This beautiful and unique set of pipes contains one pipe made from beech wood and one from briar. You may smoke both pipes, but smoking the beech wood pipe please be careful. Beech wood burns more easily then briar. Don’t smoke it too hot.
“Pipe making has been, is, and will always be a handcraft,” says Poul Nielsen. In Stanwell´s anniversary case, we’ve gone all out and include a No. 1 - Nielsen very first pipe - exactly like the original and entirely in beech. Just like it was in 1942. Beside it lies an identical replica in beautiful mottled bruyére. This isn’t merely a piece of nostalgia – it’s a piece of history and a happy moment for every serious pipe smoker and collector. Naturally, this is a limited edition.
