 Heiner Nonnbroich
My name is Heiner Nonnenbroich, born in
1953.
I am a piano teacher and work at a music school. I have inherited the sense of craftmanship from my parents, who both worked as craftsmen. As a student – in the 1970s – I started my first attempts at making pipes, then only equipped with rasp and file. Around 1999, I finally rediscovered pipe making after many years of “abstinence”. Since 2002 most of my first pipes from my workshop had been bought by my friends . In 2004 I published my website www.hn-pipes.de in the internet and I now have an ever increasing clientele. Meanwhile I have customers in Europe, the USA, Taiwan and Jordan. I make about 70 to 100 freehand pipes per year and use Briar, which I source mainly from Italy, Spain and Algeria. All my mouthpieces are made of best ebonite or cumberland. Sparely I add applications, if ever out of buffalohorn or boxwood. I´m inspired by the style of German and Danish pipemakers yet I´m trying more and more to find my own stylistic characteristics.
