Manufacturer Description:
Fine, fragrant, ripe Virginia tobaccos are pressed into cakes and cut after a prolonged ripening period into fine bright flakes (slices). The exquisite fine fruity aroma is carefully designed and deployes during smoking to the perfect smoking experience.
Characterisation:
The can of Navy Cut is presented in a retro design that has barely changed in the past decades. On opening, a clean-cut light and medium brown mottled flake with numerous golden yellow and a few dark inclusions shows. The plummy scent seems not artificially created by an aroma, but looks quite natural and reminiscent of Perique, even if it is not included. The pure Virginia is also to smell as a component of hay. The flakes are soft, but not too wet and can been plugged directly.
Plugging:
The Navy Cut can be rubbed out easily and then can be plugged as a mixture. But also bent and folded, you can bring it in the pipe easily. It should be stuffed loosely, because the tobacco is pressed pretty tight and, like almost all flakes, tends to rear up a bit after lighting. Plucked off tobacco fibers placed on top of the filling, take the flame more rapidly and facilitate the kindling.
Light up:
The Navy Cut is quite unproblematic to ignite. As with all flakes, it is advisable to let him go after the first ignition, gently level the surface with the tamper and then to light it evenly again. Should it go out yet, you can fire it again without sacrificing taste.
Smoking properties:
Although the Navy Cut is advertised in its strength as mild to medium, it is quite rich. Here, too, it reminds us of the powerful Perique. It provides a rich smoke with a very slight sweetness, sometimes nutty, then malty again. The ever-present flavors of toasted bread shows the pure Virginia and harmonizes pleasantly with the sweeter notes barely similar to the fruity casing. The natural tobacco flavor dominates. The pleasant smoking experience should not tempt you to smoke too greedy, because the flake otherwise tends to gargle a little, otherwise it could not be more easy to smoke. Toward the end, it becomes still a little stronger, but remains pleasant. What remains is only a little dark gray ash and a few unburned residues that require little work in cleaning.
Redolency:
The room note of the Navy Cut is genuine and not very sweet, in not smoking society, it could therefore be bothersome.
Conclusion:
The Navy Cut is a light brown flake with many golden inclusions. It is crafted meticulously and has a pleasant smell of hay and slightly plum. The plugging is pretty easy and the smoking properties are good, if you are not too greedy, because if done so it tends to gargle. Its full-bodied, but not too strong strength with its simple but good aromas of toasted bread with a malty sweetness, to a moderate price, is predestining the Navy Cut for an All-Day-Smoke. Suitable for beginners as "exercise object" too. A classic and rightly so!
