Drake
Sir Francis Drake not only rose from privateer to vice admiral, he was also the first English circumnavigator. He traveled to the most exotic corners of the world – which is why we chose an unusual flavoring for this blend. A brown Cavendish with light roasted aromas counteracts any overpowering sweetness from the outset. This is accompanied by various Virginias from the world's best growing regions. Last but not least, we add a touch of Black Cavendish, which immediately conveys the exciting flavors we'll now come to to your palate. Look forward to intense notes of pineapple and banana. This fruity adventure is rounded off with a hint of Madagascan vanilla.
Characterisation:
Caribbean Blue Drake comes in a round, thematically appropriate tin designed in a nautical blue. Opening the paper rosette reveals a medium, light, and black-brown, rather broad and short cut. The tobacco releases a sweet, exotic aroma that can be described as fruity and banana. Certainly not your average tobacco scent. The residual moisture in the fibers is so well-balanced that you can fill the Caribbean Blue Drake immediately after opening the tin.
Plugging:
The short cut of the Caribbean Blue Drake allows the tobacco to practically trickle into the pipe. This works even with smaller bowls. Pack the tobacco loosely at the bottom and apply gentle pressure toward the top.
Light up:
Here, too, the Caribbean Blue Drake benefits from its cut. The large surface area of the fibers quickly takes to the flame. The tamper is only needed to briefly smooth the surface before lighting it evenly a second time.
Smoking properties:
The aroma of the Caribbean Blue Drake is, as promised and expected from the cold smoke, indeed unusual. The smoke is distinctly sweet and slightly fruity. This can be attributed to the pineapple aroma. The banana flavor is even more intense. This is especially noticeable when blowing through the nose. What's striking for such a strongly flavored tobacco is the burn, which occurs without the almost usual problems such as gargling and overheating. The base tobaccos serve primarily to convey the aromas and otherwise remain in the background. There, you can taste a hint of spicy toast. Only towards the end, when the aromas fade, does the Virginia become noticeable. Then, however, the Caribbean Blue Drake already fades away, leaving only a light gray ash behind.
Redolency:
The Caribbean Blue Drake also reveals its exotic aroma in the room. Non-smokers generally find this less disturbing than natural tobaccos. It's polite to be considerate of your companions, though.
Conclusion:
While the Caribbean Blue Drake tin appears maritime, the scent of the short, brown-shaded fibers is distinctly exotic. You smell banana, and that's exactly what you get. While the pineapple and vanilla flavorings add sweetness and fruitiness, the banana dominates the taste. You should like that. Don't expect a natural tobacco flavor here. However, the Caribbean Blue Drake offers a remarkably uncomplicated burn. Unlike many flavored blends, it neither tends to splutter nor overheat. Aromatic tobacco lovers looking for an unusual tobacco that can still be smoked at any time of day should give the Caribbean Blue Drake a try.
