Two Friends
Two friends, one passion – and tobacco that tells a story. Originally created by the late Craig Tarler (Cornell & Diehl) and Gregory Pease (G.L. Pease), Two Friends Pipe Tobacco is the result of an extraordinary collaboration – driven by innovation, a spirit of experimentation, and a touch of playful creativity. From bold crossover blends to timeless Virginia classics, each composition in this series has captivated pipe enthusiasts around the world for decades.

While Craig Tarler’s influence remains unmistakable, Two Friends embarked on a new chapter in 2012. With fresh ideas and an unwavering commitment to quality, Jeremy Reeves, Master Blender at Cornell & Diehl, and Gregory Pease continued the tradition while simultaneously evolving it. The result: a reimagined, inspiring selection of handpicked tobaccos, now presented with a visual design influenced by classic American tattoo art.

Our selection is expanding with four distinguished new additions to the esteemed Two Friends series. Each blend tells its own story and invites discovery. Deacon’s Downfall captivates with intense spice, while English Dark delights with subtle hints of chocolate. Redwood harmonizes gentle smokiness with natural sweetness, and Homeward Bound offers a well-balanced blend for truly enjoyable moments. A collection for aficionados eager to explore new dimensions of fine tobacco.

Homeward Bound
Tradition meets indulgence! This bespoke aromatic blend combines selected, traditional Burley tobaccos with spicy Red Virginias and naturally sweet Bright Virginias. The result is a nostalgic, classic tobacco flavor reminiscent of bygone eras. This composition evokes delicate notes of dark stone fruits, candied nuts, and a subtle hint of fine spirits. Homeward Bound offers a balanced smoking experience that conveys warmth and comfort – perfect for lovers of traditional flavors.

Characterisation:
Two Friends Homeward Bound comes in a small, round tin sealed with both a pull-tab lid and an additional plastic lid. For safety, it's recommended to transfer any opened tobacco to a guaranteed airtight container. Beneath the wrapper leaf is a wider cut of light, medium, and dark brown tobacco. The aroma of the tin evokes notes of dried fruit and cloves, with a hint of alcohol. The residual moisture is sufficient for plugging the tobacco directly from the tin.

Plugging:
Despite its slightly wider cut, the Two Friends Homeward Bound is easy to plug. Starting loosely at the bottom and finishing with light pressure results in a well-packed pipe that burns without any problems.

Light up:
The wider fibers of the Two Friends Homeward Bound accept the flame well. The tamper is only needed to gently smooth the surface. Then, light the fire a second time, evenly.

Smoking  properties:
The Two Friends Homeward Bound is not overly strong, yet robust in flavor. The smoke is rich and carries a distinct spiciness. The tart, nutty aromas can be attributed to the Burley tobacco used. The astringent smokiness and a grassy, slightly sour note are intriguing. It evokes memories of Latakia and Oriental tobaccos; complex yet harmoniously blended, as found in English mixtures. However, since these tobaccos are not actually present in the Two Friends Homeward Bound, the finesse of the composition is evident. When smoked at a leisurely pace, one can also detect a hint of sweet fruit in the background. Relaxing comes easily, as the tobacco burns evenly. Consequently, virtually no condensation remains. Only a small amount of medium-gray, flaky ash needs to be removed from the pipe.

Redolency:
As a natural tobacco, Two Friends Homeward Bound presents itself authentically even indoors. It is not overpowering, but one should be considerate of non-smokers who might find it bothersome.

Conclusion:
Two Friends Homeward Bound comes in the company's signature small, round tin. The wider cut, with its varying shades of brown, proves advantageous during preparation, thanks to its balanced moisture content. Even beginners should find this tobacco easy to smoke. However, the flavor profile is geared more towards experienced smokers or those who prefer English blends. The nutty notes can be attributed to Burley, but the smokiness, spice, astringency, and grassiness exhibit characteristics more commonly associated with classic Latakia tobacco, which also boasts a significant pinch of Oriental. This is unusual and makes for an engaging smoke. Since the smoking itself is unobtrusive, one can fully appreciate this intriguing complex of flavors.
