Manufacturer Description:
Velvet is made out of 100% Virginia Cavendish. Normally when we refer to Virginia Cavendish we call it Modern Mixture, however these Virginia tobaccos are different from the Virginias we use for the Modern Cavendish. Normally we use bright Virginia leaf which after a steaming process turns black. However, for the Velvet tobaccos it is a little different.
The Virginias we use for Velvet are Flue-cured after harvest just like any other high quality leaf, but then a special method is used to change the properties of the tobacco. All tobacco for this very special Virginia type is fermented like cigar leaf, except at a higher temperature and a for shorter period of time. This process changes the colour of the bright Virginia leaf from yellow to dark brown. After a steaming process the tobacco turns quite black and the taste is very smooth and gentle.
The finished tobacco offers a taste of natural tobacco sweetness combined with an indulging taste of chocolate and orange.
