Montecristo Brillantes Year of the Dragon

For the fifth time, Habanos S.A. is releasing an exclusive cigar to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Montecristo Brillantes. This year, a completely new format has been created: the "Venerables" (translated as "The Venerable Ones") with a length of 128 mm and a ring gauge of 53.

This remarkable cigar from the traditional Montecristo brand is presented in elegant red and gold boxes, the classic colors of the Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese calendar, 2024 marks the "Year of the Dragon." Appropriately, a golden metallic dragon inlay adorns the lid of the artistically designed box. Additionally, the foot of each cigar features a second band depicting the dragon. Given the number 8’s significance as a lucky number in Chinese culture, each box contains 18 of these exquisite cigars. The shape of the box is inspired by Asian temple architecture. Furthermore, the cigar boxes are equipped with an NFC chip on the inside of the lid. This technology allows aficionados to scan the chip to verify the product's authenticity and access additional information about the cigar.

The flavor profile of the Montecristo Brillantes stays true to the brand, offering a medium to full-bodied blend. Thanks to its large ring gauge, the cigar delivers an especially impressive expression of its diverse and well-balanced aromas, with distinctive roasted notes setting the tone. China is a key market for Habanos, and interest in Cuban cigars is immense in the Land of the Rising Sun. Worldwide, Chinese aficionados are on the lookout for Habanos. However, these Chinese New Year editions are not just appealing to Asian customers—collectors around the globe eagerly hope to secure one of these coveted boxes. Only 18,888 individually numbered boxes are available worldwide. A plaque displaying the unique number is affixed to the inside of the lid.

The cigars are rolled using meticulously selected premium tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo growing region in Pinar del Río. They are crafted “totalmente a mano”—entirely handmade longfillers. Cuba remains the only place in the world where all cigars are still produced exclusively using this traditional method.
