That's what people called the brave men of the first Hamburg fire brigade in the old days - because of the white uniforms. "Ready Rubbed Flake", a ready-to-smoke blend of different Virginia grades from light golden yellow to deep brown, stored and aged under pressure. A gentle treat for the demanding smoker. The delicate flavoring refines the taste and the room note. Wittkittels is suitable for all pipe sizes (if the filling volume is smaller, you should grind up the pieces of tobacco a little).
Characterisation:
The Wittkittels comes in a small, high tin that is sealed with a plastic lid and then again with thick aluminum foil. If you tear it open at the tab, you will see an even mixture of dark and medium brown tobaccos and a generous portion of a fine, light Ready Rubbed. The sweetish, intense smell is reminiscent of dried wild berries, with the spice of cloves and cinnamon, so that it reminds a little of punch. The tobacco is just right for being plugged immediately, but it is questionable whether this will remain so if the tin is only closed with the plastic lid. Transferring to a more airtight container seems advisable here so that you can enjoy the consistency for longer.
Plugging:
Since the Wittkittels is a fine mixture and the Ready Rubbed pieces are not too coarse, the tobacco can be plugged easily. You start loosely at the bottom and get gently firmer towards the top. For better flame acceptance, you can grind the Ready Rubbed a little and put a few crumbs on top of the filling.
Light up:
Well prepared, the Wittkittels does not require much effort to light. Two flames and a gentle smoothing with the tamper in between and the surface shows an even glow.
Smoking properties:
The Wittkittels is composed of different Virginias and this type of tobacco can tingle on the tongue if smoked too vigorously. If you take care to smoke the tobacco carefully, the Wittkittels burns down cool and calmly. Then the Virginia shows its mild side. Notes of hay combine with light roasted aromas, which are rounded off by the aromatization. This stays pleasantly sweet in the background and does not drown out the basic tobacco. Leaning back comfortably, you can enjoy a relaxed burn. In the end, only a little dark gray ash and hardly any condensate remain, which can be removed quickly.
Redolency:
Due to the slight aromatization of the Wittkittel, there is a slightly sweet fruitiness in the room, which means that the room note can be quite acceptable for tolerant non-smokers.
Conclusion:
The mixture of the Wittkittel is composed in a balanced manner both in the tobacco image and in the smoke. Thanks to the light Ready Rubbend it contains, the dark and medium-brown Wittkittel provides a calm burning with the hay and roasted notes typical of Virginias, which are rounded off by a delicately sweet aroma. This does not cover the basic tobacco, so that even those smokers who have little experience with flavored tobaccos will be satisfied with the Wittkittels. The burning, which is relaxed with a little mindfulness, also invites you to smoke the Wittkittels at any time, whereby it also pollutes the room air little.
