Haunted Bookshop Cake
Compiled by the late Bob Runowski and named in honor of Christopher Morley's famous novel, Haunted Bookshop is a bold blend of Burleys and Virginias with a touch of Perique. This special version is pressed and cut into a traditional crumble cake to blend the flavors even better.
Characterisation:
The round tin of Quiet Nights is sealed with a pull-ring closure and closed with an additional plastic lid. For longer storage, however, it is advisable to transfer it to an airtight container. Under the cover paper and wrapped in cardboard is a coarse, black-brown Ready Rubbed, which is streaked with isolated golden speckles. The ascending strong smell of campfire reveals the contained oriental tobaccos. Due to the design as a coarse Ready Rubbed, the moisture content is slightly higher, so that the Quiet Nights should be allowed to dry briefly before darning.
Plugging:
Due to the fine basic cuts of the Haunted Bookshop Cake and the low moisture content, it is hardly possible to cut entire flakes from the cake even with the greatest care. However, you should proceed carefully and use a sharp knife. The resulting Ready Rubbed is then ideal for being plugged loosely.
Light up:
The Haunted Bookshop Cake actually only needs one flame to take the fire. However, to be on the safe side, you should briefly smooth the surface with the tamper and then light it again.
Smoking properties:
The Haunted Bookshop Cake has a mild, spicy smoke. It is lush and has aromas that are often found in stronger mixtures: wood, leather and also some pepper, which can be attributed to the Perique. If you let the smoke of the Haunted Bookshop Cake flow out through your nose, you will notice a floral and herbal note. These complementary flavors create an interesting smoking experience. This should be given due attention, as the tobacco can start to gargle if smoked too intensively. It may also be necessary to re-fire occasionally, but this does not affect the taste. After extinguishing, a pleasant aftertaste of toasted bread remains in the mouth. The very fine, light-colored ash that remains absorbs any condensate well and therefore requires little cleaning work.
Redolency:
The real tobacco room note of the Haunted Bookshop Cake will not appeal to every non-smoker. However, it is not particularly stressful, so it is up to the smoker to decide in which company he smokes the tobacco.
Conclusion:
The Haunted Bookshop Cake is a compressed tobacco made from lighter varieties and is rather crumbly when cut. So it can be easily given into the pipe as a Ready Rubbed and can perhaps be viewed as a beginner's plug. However, when smoking, you shouldn't become too wantonly. The fine spice, floral herbs and woody, leathery notes could be lost. But if you take your time, the Haunted Bookshop Cake turns out to be a tobacco for lovers of something special. A damn good book - as well as a fine drink - is suitable to accompany this tobacco.
