Bayou Night
This bold blend, inspired by Scottish tradition, combines Latakia, Virginias, Turkish, and Burley tobaccos into a harmonious whole, further enriched by the robust addition of genuine Louisiana Perique from St. James Parish. A smoking experience of full intensity that surprisingly remains cool on the palate.
Characterisation:
Bayou Night is packaged in the company's signature small round tin, sealed with a ring-pull closure and a plastic lid. Transferring it to an airtight container is therefore recommended for longer storage. The mixture is composed of medium, dark and black-brown fibers that are crimped and cut rather short. The scent is somewhat reminiscent of black tea, sweet and only slightly smoky. The balanced residual moisture content of the tobaccos used makes it possible to bring the Bayou Night fresh from the tin directly into the pipe.
Plugging:
The Bayou NIght's uniformly shorter cut makes it easy to plug the tobacco. As usual, you start loose at the bottom and get firmer as you go up.
Light up:
Here, too, Bayou Night makes little inconvenience. After the first flame, press the surface lightly with the tamper and then use the second flame to create an even glow.
Smoking properties:
Unlike the cold fragrance, the Bayou Night presents itself as quite smoky in the pipe. In addition to a clear spiciness that can be attributed to both the Perique and the Oriental, there are nutty burley aromas as well as the usual toasted bread of selected Virginias. The Latakia is also more of the spicy variety. These individually very different components create a complex but always well-rounded taste profile. This has juicy herbal notes as well as astringent woody traces. The Bayou Night is worth smoking comfortably to do justice to this play of aromas. This also benefits the burning, as it may occasionally be necessary to carefully bring the embers to the tobacco with the tamper. When you get to the end, there is only some medium gray ash and a little condensate to clean.
Redolency:
The level of oriental tobaccos in Bayou Night is noticeable in the room. Not excessively, but still consideration for society that is not used to this is appropriate.
Conclusion:
The Bayou Night is a mix of shorter, slightly curled fibers in dark brown tones. The slightly sweet, smoky scent gives you little idea of the diverse spectrum of flavors. Roasted bready Virginia combines with nutty, woody Burley, rounding off the spice of Perique and herbal Oriental. The added Latakia is also spicy. Even if you could, Bayou Night is definitely too good for casual smoking. He deserves a suitable opportunity, such as an hour of leisure in the evening, perhaps with a good book and an equally good drink. Since Bayou Night is just as easy to prepare as it is to smoke and still shows a balanced English-toned character, it is also ideal for anyone who wants to try out a smoke in this special direction.
